Our Journey Together

A brief note from our founder reflecting our vision, values, and commitment to our community.

When I was studying law at the University of Barcelona, I quickly made international friends from many countries. Yet, in those first months, I realized something was missing — I hardly knew anyone from my own homeland. I searched for an Azerbaijani community in Barcelona and even across Spain, but I could not find one. That was the moment I understood the importance of creating a space that would connect us.

In 2015, we founded the Azerbaijani Society in Barcelona (ASB) with a simple but profound vision: to bring Azerbaijanis together abroad while sharing the richness of our culture with the people of Spain. From the very beginning, our mission has not changed — to strengthen community, preserve heritage, and build bridges of friendship and understanding in our new home.

Two years later, in 2017, we opened Casa Azerbaiyán — a cultural center where these ideas could come to life every day. From concerts, exhibitions, and lectures to children’s classes, community talks, and international collaborations, Casa Azerbaiyán has become more than a venue. It is a living symbol of culture, dialogue, and connection.

Over the years, I have seen students, families, artists, and local friends gather under one roof, united by curiosity, respect, and shared values. These moments remind me why we started: to celebrate who we are, to connect with others, and to contribute to the vibrant cultural life of Barcelona.

My hope is that ASB and Casa Azerbaiyán will continue to grow as spaces of community, creativity, and collaboration — welcoming everyone who wishes to discover, share, and belong.
